Understand coverage questions before choosing a policy.

A practical plan
Inventory belongings first, then compare personal-property limits, category sublimits, deductibles, replacement-cost versus actual-cash-value settlement, covered causes of loss, exclusions, optional endorsements, and whether off-premises property is limited.
Compare personal liability, medical payments to others, and loss-of-use/additional-living-expense limits separately. A lower premium can reflect a higher deductible or narrower limits; only the policy and endorsements control coverage.
Ask specifically about hurricane or wind deductibles, water damage, mold, pets, roommates, valuables, business property, and flood. Standard renters policies commonly exclude flood, although a separate policy or an available endorsement may help; verify the exact Florida address and carrier terms.
Florida quote starting points
This is a short, non-ranked list of providers whose official sites currently describe Florida renters coverage. It is not exhaustive or an endorsement. Availability and policy terms are address- and applicant-specific.
State Farm
Official renters product and Florida-agent access; availability, underwriting, limits and endorsements depend on the applicant and address.
Allstate / Castle Key in Florida
Official Florida renters page; confirm the underwriting company shown on the quote and policy.
Progressive
Official Florida renters page; the insurer or program administrator can vary, so confirm the company named in the quote.
Plain-English policy terms
- Premium
- The price charged for the policy; it does not describe the amount paid on a claim.
- Deductible
- The amount the policyholder pays toward a covered property loss before the insurer pays, subject to policy terms.
- Limit
- The maximum the policy may pay for a coverage or category; sublimits can apply to valuables or off-premises property.
- Replacement cost
- A settlement basis intended to replace covered property with comparable new property, subject to policy conditions and limits.
- Actual cash value
- Replacement cost reduced for depreciation, subject to policy conditions and limits.
- Personal liability
- Coverage that may respond when the insured is legally responsible for covered injury or property damage to others.
- Loss of use / ALE
- Coverage that may pay qualifying extra living costs when a covered loss makes the rental uninhabitable, within time and dollar limits.
- Exclusion
- A cause, property type, person, location, or circumstance the policy does not cover.
- Endorsement
- A document that changes the policy, such as adding, removing, or modifying coverage.
- Flood coverage
- Protection for qualifying flood loss, usually requiring separate coverage; never assume a standard renters policy includes it.
